Department earns award for consistency
The Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Community Health Services has announced that Avon Lake Municipal Utilities (ALMU) has been awarded a Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in the water to a level that is optimal for preventing tooth decay.
The award recognizes those community water systems that have maintained a consistent level of optimally fluoridated water for the 2010 calendar year.

Daily test results at Water Treatment Plan revealed that Avon Lake's average fluoride level for 2010 was 1.01 mg/L, well within the 0.8 to 1.3mg/L range required by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Ohio EPA.
The ODH maintains its strong endorsement for fluoridating community water supplies and stresses that this preventive measure is the single most important step a community can take to improve the dental health of its citizens.
