Avon Road Set to Re-Open, Help With Interchange
Road to be resurfaced, opened to avoid construction zone
The city of Avon will resurface from in Westlake to the Avon border to re-open the road to save time and money on the interchange construction.
Residents in that area will be able to avoid the construction at the intersection. Once school is completed, the intersection will be closed off to help speed up the interchange work in that area over the summer, Avon construction project manager Don Damyanic said in an
e-mail.
The city hopes to have the resurfacing completed by June 1 and will open the road a couple of weeks later. The goal is to complete the interchange work before school starts in the fall, Avon city engineer Robert Knopf said.

to the resurfacing on Avon Road. Westlake closed Avon Road at the border in 2009.
Avon City Council voted Monday to award the resurfacing bid to Crossroads Asphalt, Inc., for $67,265 and a $1,150 alternate bid.

Knopf said the city will save around $100,000, and it’ll make traffic safer by keeping drivers out of the construction zone.
“Anytime you end up having a whole bunch of people having to drive through a construction zone, there’s always a much greater chance that an accident will happen. Safety is the main concern. The other part is it will make the interchange project go faster,” Knopf said.
Although they are targeting the beginning of the school year, Knopf cautioned that weather will play a factor on the work’s completion date, particularly if there’s a lot of rain over the summer.
Avon’s agreement with Westlake says once the construction work for the interchange is completed, Avon Road will be closed from Avon city limits to Bradley Road, Damyanic said.
