Avon residents will be paying more for water starting in September.
Avon city council recently approved an increase that will equate to approximately $6 per household.
Currently, water rates are $2.94 per 1,000 gallons for the first 6,000 gallons, $2.60 for the next 24,000 and $2.38 for over 30,000 gallons.
City Council passed an ordinance recently to increase the basic fee for water from $2.94 per thousand gallons for the first 6,000 gallons to $3.05 per thousand gallons for the first 6,000 gallons.
Residents of the city will be paying an average of $6 a year more for their water beginning Sept. 1.
The charge for the next 24,000 gallons used will go from $2.50 per thousand gallons to $2.60; and the increase for using more than 30,000 gallons of water will go from $2.38 to $2.47 per thousand gallons.
According to the city’s website, the increase is a result of rate increases being passed on from suppliers.
