Brian Parsons Seeking At-Large Council Seat in Avon

Avon businessman says working together is key.

Brian Parson said in the 11 years he has been an Avon resident, the population has doubled and commercial and residential development has exploded. Now he wants to help ensure the city will have a smooth transition with a new mayor at the helm and several new council members after the November 2013 General Election.

“The new Nagel road interchange is open now and the Cleveland Clinic expansion is on the horizon,” Parsons, 51, said. “This, along with all of the land still available in Avon means that this growth will continue. How the continued growth is managed will be key to the quality of life for all of our families and for our future as a community.”

In November, Avon voters will select a new mayor—the first new mayor in 20 years—and possibly three new council members.

“With this growth comes the responsibility to expertly represent Avon residents and help manage our city in a way that they deserve and expect,” Parsons said. “These are exciting times in Avon and we are about to make quite a transition. The ability to work together and build consensus is key.”

His professional background includes sales and management at both large and small companies like Sony, Philips, US Robotics, Pandigital and Siren Inc. He has also been a business owner with Hudson Access Group and understands the importance of healthy businesses in Avon.

Currently, he is the Director of Sales, North America for Roku Inc., a silicon valley company based in Saratoga, CA.

“I have worked for both large and small companies and have been a business owner,” he said. “In my current position, I manage a very large portfolio of both domestic and international business and contribute to our growth and bottom line each and every day. As a business leader and community volunteer, I believe that my strong business experience, negotiation skills, and common sense approach provide the background and expertise to be successful on city council.”

Parsons has served on the Lorain County Solid Waste Policy committee and has held the position of Chairman for the past three years. He said cooperation is key to getting things accomplished.

“I have worked with every city and township in Lorain County,” Parsons said.
“I helped write the policy for the district that the Ohio EPA called a ‘model for the state,’ increased recycling 271 percent in Lorain County, and delivered over $450,000 in grant funding to the City of Avon since the plan was implemented. This experience has given me great insight into how to work together and get things done.”

Parsons and wife Bunny have an 11-year-old daughter, Charlotte, a student at Avon Heritage North School.  In 2009 Parsons ran for the Ward 3 council seat, losing to Kevin Ward. In May, Ward announced he was running for mayor.

In June, lawyer Lee Belardo announced his intention to seek an at-large council seat.

Parsons has set up a Facebook page to disseminate campaign information and maintains a campaign website as well.
