Candidate Statement:

I have been on the Avon Lake Board of Education for more than seven years and Vice President of the BOE since January 2007. I am dedicated to supporting the mission of the Avon Lake City Schools to challenge all students and develop their individual goals through community partnerships, resources and technologies which will produce responsible and compassionate citizens.

The Avon Lake Schools have had remarkable success for many years. We recently earned our 9th consecutive performance rating of "Excellent" or "Excellent with Distinction" on the State Report Card.  In 2011,was named by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top high schools in the country.  Our students are regularly recognized for excellence in music, visual arts and athletics. Based on employee nominations and surveys, the Avon Lake City Schools were recently ranked as one of the Plain Dealer’s top employers in Northeast Ohio.

During my recent term on the BOE we successfully secured Federal stimulus funds which resulted in savings to Avon Lake taxpayers of approximately $9 million for two bond issues which financed the additions and renovations at five school buildings, the renovation of the Avon Lake Memorial Stadium, and the construction of the new bus garage on Pin Oak Parkway. These projects will allow us to better serve our students and community members for many years.

Although school funding continues to be a challenge in today’s economic climate, we must continue to evaluate our programming to ensure that we are providing the highest quality of academics possible. We continually receive excellent ratings and awards while constantly looking at ways to stretch our operating budget.

I have been a hard working and dedicated member of the Avon Lake Board of Education for more than seven years. I would be honored to serve another four year term.
