Councilman Larry Meiners Makes Re-Election Run Official

Meiners, who has raised a family and has grown his family here, said he feels he has helped make the city a better place.

“I have strived to encourage an open, transparent government,” the Surrey Lane resident said.

Meiners said that during the next decade, opportunities that will benefit and challenge Avon lake will be numerous and complex.

“The economic situation, it’s really unknown,” Meiners said. “We have a city council that understands money and priorities. But we’re really going to have to sit down and decide where the funds will go.”

Meiners said paying for —the stormwater sewers in particular—are a priority.

“Maintaining infrastructure is huge,” he said.

Resources, however, will continue to be limited but Meiners said there have been bright spots during his administration.

“I think the unions have given us a huge plus and a lot of support,” he said, referring to by union and city employees.

The candidate is the current chair of both the Human Resource and Sewer committees of council and also sits on the Finance, Safety and Public Service committees.

Meiners served in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry with the U.S. Army and is an officer in the American Legion Post 211 in Avon Lake.   

Meiners, who retired from General Electric, is the principle in LSM Packaging, a manufacturing rep a representing a diversified plastic bag manufacturer.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and MBA from Central Missouri State University.

Meiners lives with his wife Patti. His son, Lance, lives with his wife Kelly in Avon Lake with their two children. Meiners son Capt. Jason Meiners died during a jet training exercise in 2001 leaving behind daughter-in-law Lisa and future child. Meiners also has three stepchildren.
