1,000 Flags Honored, Burned on Flag Day

American Legion Post 211 Commander Wayne Sherwin puts a flag on the fire as the post burns more than 1,000 flags that were turned in to the post.

The burning was part of the retiring of old and worn flags on Flag Day, June 14.

This is the correct way to dispose of an old or torn U.S. flag. Post 211, headquartered in Avon Lake, has this burning every year on Flag Day, June 14. A dozen other members of the post helped Sherwin in burning the flags. (Photo by Bob Quinlan)
