Frustration Mounts over Bradley Road Intersection Closing

Residents say they weren't notified of additional one-month closing.

Continued work and the unexpected closing of Naigle Road in Bay Village has led to frustration by l as well as residents.

Last week, Avon Lake city leaders and residents were told that Naigle Road, which turns into Krebs Road in Avon Lake, would remain closed through the end of September to allow newly poured concrete to cure. City officials were told before the project started the intersection would be open Aug. 27. Bay Village’s City Engineer Dan Galli said the road might open Sept. 20 and blamed the weather.

The collective council sent a letter to Bay Village Mayor Debbie Sutherland expressing their frustration over the lack of communication between the cities. (See Patch later for comments from Sutherland and Galli.)

“The extended closure of Nagle Road has caused a hardship to many Avon Lake residents, especially those living in the Hunt Club and Bridgeside neighborhoods,” the letter, authored by Councilman-at-Large Dan Bucci and signed by all council members, said. “Had we been informed of the additional delay, our two cities could have worked together to find a more palatable conclusion to the project.”

The letter said that with accurate information, Avon Lake’s leaders could have better prepared residents for the closure.

Hunt Club resident Kelly Bryan, who grew up in Bay Village, also sent a letter to Sutherland.

“As you know, a construction project has been underway for the last month at the intersection of Naigle and Bradley Roads in Bay Village, making it impossible for residents of Avon Lake to access Bradley Road,” Bryan said.

Bryan said she learned the road would be closed an additional month from one of the project’s construction workers.

“I realize that none of Bay Village's residents are impacted by this problem, which may decrease the sense of urgency in its completion,” Bryan’s letter said. “However, as a resident of Hunt Club, which has only one point of entry/exit onto Krebs/Naigle Road, this is a massive inconvenience that has negatively impacted our lives on a daily basis for over a month.”

Bryan, a special education teacher who works in Westlake, said the road closing was frustrating for her and the 233 families in the Hunt Club subdivision, several who had discussed not patronizing Bay Village businesses.

She also expressed concern over potential delays in reaching hospitals.

Bay Village officials have said the road could open soon after Sept. 20. (Read an update in Avon Lake Patch later today.)
