Hessel Selected to Serve on Utilities Board

Ian B. Hessel has accepted a board member position on the Avon Lake Board of Municipal Utilities. Hessel, an experienced senior finance and operations executive, was among five candidates that applied for the position vacated by Charles D. Whitmer, who retired after serving 17 years on the board.

Hessel is the owner of Hessel Solutions Inc., a North Olmsted firm that provides on demand executives and major purchase financial negotiation services to companies seeking to supplement existing staff to complete a project or fill a temporary position during a transition.

“Mr. Hessel brought special management skills, including a CPA, which helped us make a decision to invite him to join the Board," Board Chairman David J. Marquard said. "However, all candidates were outstanding.”

Hessel will be sworn in at the Nov. 5 utilities board meeting.

Hessel describes himself as a problem solver and decision maker who has board level experience. He said “I am delighted with the opportunity to serve on the ALMU Board.”

Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka congratulated the Board of Municipal Utilities for their selection.

Zilka was impressed when Hessel applied for a vacant city council seat.

“This was an excellent example of sharing resources for the benefit of our residents and stakeholders,” Zilka said.

Ian and his wife, Karen Hessel and their children (Jimmy, Jason, and Sarah) are Avon Lake residents twice over—having first lived here in the late 90s/early 2000s and then moving back here in 2009.
