Mayor Talks Pool at Council Meeting

No when, but there seems to be a where

It was a quick meeting for Avon's Monday night as not enough council members were present to vote on ordinances.

Councilmen Daniel Urban and Dennis McBride were absent.

Ward 1 councilman Bryan Jensen asked a question a constituent had asked about the possibility of a city pool.

Smith said that there will likely be a pool in the coming years.

"The town grew so fast, we couldn't get everything we wanted in one fell swoop," Smith said.

In the next year to 18 months, Smith said, the city will get design ideas for the pool, looking at what other cities have done, such as Avon Lake with its .

The recreation tax used for the and generates enough revenue where a pool could be built and maintained from it, Smith said.

No property taxes will be needed to maintain a pool, he said, nor money from the general fund.

The site will likely be city-owned land south of the ,  and . The land used to be the site of Peak's Greenhouses.

In addition to a pool, Smith said, there may be room for a soccer field. There are also several acres of woods that were never cleared in the city's history that would make wonderful walking trails, he said.
