New Districting Excludes Some Towns, But Lundy Will Still Work With Those Residents

Matt Lundy will get new district to represent, but stresses he'll still work with all Lorain County residents.

Since January of 2007, I have had the honor to serve you in Columbus. As a member of the Ohio General Assembly, my district is based upon lines drawn by the Apportionment Board of Ohio. This is very different from the Congressional Districts drawn by the majority party in The Ohio Legislature. You would be surprised by how many individuals confuse my state representative position with a congressional position. Due to the recent Census, my state house district has been reshaped. The effective date for the new district will be January of 2013.

Each district, in the Ohio House of Representatives, represents about 120,000 Ohioans. With a new census every ten years, the Apportionment Board redraws House (99) and Senate (33) Districts. My current district now covers Avon Lake, Avon, most of Elyria, North Ridgeville, Sheffield Village, part of Elyria Township, Eaton, Columbia and Carlisle. These communities form the 57th District.

The new district will continue to include all of Avon Lake, Sheffield Village and Carlisle. It will not include Avon and Columbia Station. Also, instead of representing all of North Ridgeville, the new district incorporates only Wards 1 and 2, and precincts B and E in Ward 3. Eaton Township will also be divided. The once divided communities of Elyria and Elyria Township will no longer be divided. New communities added to the district will be Grafton Village and part of Grafton Township. The new area will be known as District 55.

I will greatly miss representing residents and government leaders in Avon and Columbia Station. However, I wish to stress that I have always worked to be a representative for not only my district, but all of Lorain County. I will continue to work closely with these communities and others to help improve jobs and the quality of life for our families here in the county. Also, I will continue my monthly “Lundy Listens” town halls throughout the district and the county to hear the concerns of residents about issues before the legislature in Columbus.

You are not alone if the new map sounds confusing to you right now. Feel free to contact my office if you have any additional questions. Also, please contact my office with any questions or concerns you might have about state government. I can be reached at district57@ohr.state.oh.us or by phone at 614-644-5076. I look forward to serving you.
