'Family' Defined, New Pool Pass Costs Outlined

Recreation Department wants changes to pool passes.

Residents wanting to attend the may be facing a new fee schedule this year based on the number of people in a family and offering tiered schedules based on when a pass is purchased.

“We want to give a little more initiative to purchase pool passes,” Recreation Director Gary Gerrone told March 5.

The new fees still need to be approved by council.

Last year, a family pool pass was $125 per season regardless of when the pass was purchased, and the number of people in each family.

The cost of a pass will now vary with the time of year purchased, and will encourage residents to purchase passes post season and market them as holiday gifts. Family pass/individual recommendations by the Recreation Department are $125/$45 if purchased Jan. 1 – May 15 or post season (closing through Dec. 31);  $145/$50 if purchased May 16 – July 15; $100/$36 if purchased July 16 – July 31; and $75/$40 if purchased Aug. 1 – end of season.

The proposed schedule also clarifies a “family” as two adults and three children living at one residence.

“We thought it was in line with what other pools are doing,” Gerrone said, adding that the system is designed to encourage family passes.

“It’s certainly less than buying individual passes,” Gerrone said.

Last year there was no limit to the number of people in a “family.” The recreation department is recommending an additional cost of $15 for each additional child and $30 per adult. Seniors and preschoolers will remain free, although Gerrone wants seniors to have a pass.

“We want them to swipe it so we can keep track,” he said.

Individual passes in 2011 were $45 per season and daily admission was $3 per day for adults and $2 for youth. Seniors and pre-school children were free. Those prices are recommended to stay the same.

Council will also review a family’s ability to obtain a nanny/childcare provider pass for $15 as a family add-on. The childcare pass, which will be color coded, can only be used when that person is providing childcare services.
