Obama Touts Unemployment Rate at CSU Speech

Big Bird gets a mention at Oct. 5 speech.

President Barack Obama made his most recent campaign stop in Cleveland this afternoon, greeting a crowd at Cleveland State University.

It took him only a few minutes to incorporate “Big Bird” into his speech, in response to GOP challenger Mitt Romney's Wednesday debate comments he would eliminate federal support to public television.

"Mitt Romney wants to let Wall Street run wild again, but he wants to bring the hammer down on Sesame Street," Obama told a cheering crowd. "Do you want me to save Big Bird?" The Plain Dealer reported following Obama’s 2 p.m. speech on No. 5.

Obama incorporated this morning’s job report citing a 7.8 percent unemployemnt rate, into his speech. It represents the lowest unemployment rate since Obama took office as president.

“He touted the jobless rate and attacked Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's economic plan,” WKBN reported.

The event marked the President’s fourth visit to the university, including a Feb. 28, 2008 nationally televised event debating Hillary Clinton.

The Toledo Blade is reporting a large crowd greeted Obama before his speech, waiting in the rain at an outdoor soccer field.

Romney is planning a stop in Cuyahoga Falls next week.

Inflamed liberals all over the web mad about big bird! That makes me smile. If the biggest issue you have is worrying about defunding PBS life must be great for you. Seriously though, we have much bigger problems then worrying about wether or not sesame street can stand on its own.

Who is making all the money from the Sesame Street toys and games? Does PBS get any of it? The money from that stuff would pay for PBS for the next 10 years. LOL!
I am asking because I really don't know and I know its a HUGE market!
MZ October 6, 2012 at 10:55 pm
Rex, what? I'm not complaining, I am laughing at people like you. You amuse me.
I didn't borrow money from my parents when I got my degree or when I got my masters. I also didn't get government money. I worked to pay for school then was fortunate enough to have a high paying engineering job with a company that paid for my MBA. I don't owe anybody anything. Now I own and operate several small businesses and am happy to sign the front of checks to good people that work hard like I did. If you love PBS so much, go ahead and send them a check. Put your money where your mouth is, or just stop complaining.

the producers of Sesame Street, revealed that they received $7,968,918 in government grants last year while Sesame Workshop brought in over $122 million in revenue, not including government grants.in 2011, they paid out over $54 million in salaries

its great to see the liberals worried about the defunding of PBS and not the defunding of NPR since NPR only gets 84 million in public funding While PBS gets only 7 million

Do you support them with anything more than a post on the patch or are you just running off at the mouth.
For a sad display of humanity I sure sleep easy at night.
James Murphy October 7, 2012 at 02:54 am
your going to have to support them first of the year
Keith Best October 7, 2012 at 02:58 am
Why do so many think a first-term senator who spent most of that first-term running for another office, is capable of overseeing the world's largest economy? EPIC FAILURE!
This was obvious in the debate.
Bill Cole October 8, 2012 at 03:37 am
If you support them then you send them a check not the gov.

Do you think Obama is a good guy and a straight shooter? Read on, please: Obama has been an economic disaster the last four years, and this Benghazi disgrace is completely unacceptable... This country does not reward failure and dishonesty out of the White House...

Hope and change, baby... It's much harder to do once you have a record that can be reviewed... He also said in 2008 that if he didn't get the job done in four years, that it would be a one term deal... Well, he hasn't delivered, so time to let him keep his word... Romney/Ryan 2012
