Pelfrey Pleads No Contest to Drunk Driving Charge, Sentenced

Former council president given fine, 3-day jail sentence from March arrest.

Former Avon Councilman Clint Pelfrey received a 3-day jail sentence, a $500 fine and had his license suspended for six months after pleading no contest to a drunk driving charge May 31. Pelfrey has retained work driving privileges.

Court records indicate a 30-day jail sentence was issued with 27 of those days suspended.

Pelfrey’s lawyer, Dan Wightman, told the Chronicle Telegram his client decided to plead not guilty after they reviewed the evidence against Pelfrey.

“He decided he wanted to get the matter over with,” Wightman told the Chronicle Telegram.

Pelfrey, who was selected as the Avon council president in January, following a DUI charge on March 30.

Pelfrey was arrested by the Ohio Highway Patrol after being pulled over for speeding on Stoney Ridge Road just south of Detroit Road at 2:06 a.m. on March 30, said Sgt. Charles Gullet of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

According to court records, Pelfrey's blood-alcohol content was a .163, more than twice the legal limit. He was also charged with speeding. That charge was dismissed May 31.

Pelfrey was initially elected to Avon City Council in November 2005.
