School Levy Opposition Pops Up

Signs mentioning Buckeye Institute appear around town.

With the vote on Issue 3, the for , coming on May 3, signs of opposition appeared in the final days before the election.

Signs saying Issue 3 should be rejected because of "costly" insurance and pensions were spotted up and down Detroit Road on Monday.

The signs also put the web address of the Buckeye Institute, described on its website as a "coalition of citizens dedicated to enhancing prosperity for Ohioans through educating policymakers and citizens." The group's focus includes public employee compensation and government transparency.

Rachel Miller, director of communications for the Buckeye Institute, said Monday that the organization has nothing to do with the signs. As a non-profit, she explained, the group cannot engage in such advocacy.

"We just put out information," she said.

No other person's or organization's name were on the signs.

School board representatives declined comment Monday.
