Stadium Lights Work Set to Go On

Council approves funds to get started fixing light towers at All Pro Freight Stadium

Avon City Council approved reappropriations Monday to cover the initial costs of repairing the light towers at .

One of the light towers in December. Further inspections revealed , so the decision was made to take all of them down. The towers were all down late last week.

Council approved in city money for the project. The money will be used towards engineering work and for hiring a general contractor.

Work needs to begin soon in order for the light towers to be either repaired or replaced by the May 18 opening of the season. The Mid-American Conference baseball tournament is being played in late May at the stadium.

Council also approved taking steps to get on the ballot later this year.

The police levy up for renewal is .50 mills, and generates about $380,000 per year. The fire levy is also  .50 mills and generates about $275,000 per year. The money generated from the levies is used for equipment for the departments, not operating costs.

The earliest the levies could be on a ballot is in an August special election.
