Three Sworn In to Board of Municipal Utilities

Three were elected at November General Election.

Charles Whitmer, John Dzwonczyk, and Randy  Phillips were sworn into office at the Jan. 3 meeting of the Avon Lake Municipal Utilities.

Whitmer, Board Chairman, was elected to his fifth term, and Dzwonczyk and Phillips to their third and second terms respectively. Dave Marquard and Tony Abram are fulfilling their fifth and third terms on the five-member board.

is unique among public utilities. Its five-member board is organized as an independent legislative body under Avon Lake’s  Charter. Board members are elected to serve four-year terms in the city’s general election.

The Board’s primary responsibilities are to oversee the Utilities’ operations and finances, employ staff, establish policy, and implement the Utilities’ strategic plan. One of the Board’s primary goals is to grow both the bulk water and wastewater treatment business. Currently approximately 85 percent of the water and 10 percent of the wastewater processed are services sold to customers outside the city.
