Avon City Council is not waiting around to fill the vacancy left by last week's following his DUI arrest.
Applications for Pelfrey's at-large seat can be submitted at through 4 p.m. Friday, April 13.
To qualify for consideration, you must be a registered voter and have lived in Avon for at least one year, according to the city charter.
Interested? You can pick up the application form at City Hall during regular business hours (8 a.m to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday) or download a PDF version of the application from the city's website, print it, fill it out and turn it in at City Hall.
After the application deadline, council will appoint a new person to fill Pelfrey's spot. If the spot is not filled within 30 days of Pelfrey's April 4 resignation, will appoint the replacement.
Councilman Bryan Jensen spoke on Pelfrey during comments.
"I had the honor of working with (Pelfrey) for six years," he said. "And while I by no means condone what he is accused of doing, I wish him and his family the best as they move forward."
Smith insisted just before Monday's meeting adjourned that City Council is not rushing the replacing of Pelfrey.
"We have things on the agenda that need to be addressed," Smith said. "It's important Council fill this seat as soon as they possibly can."
Because of Pelfrey's resignation, and Ward 3 councilman Kevin Ward being absent from Monday's meeting, there weren't enough council members present Monday to allow suspending the rules and voting on legislation.
Instead, president pro tem Dan Zegarac had to declare Monday's meeting to be the first of three readings for all the resolutions and ordinances on the agenda, including the proposed , and advertising for bids for this year's roads projects.
"We've got a $30 million business to run," Smith said. "We need six (Council members) here every time, otherwise it slows the process."
Councilman Craig Witherspoon suggested a special regular meeting of Council following next Monday's scheduled work session to vote on the pending legislation. Zegarac agreed.
