Yes Voters, No Voters and the Kids: Letter

Glossy fliers and robocalls couldn't hold the levy down.

To Avon Lake Kids and others:
To the Kids:The voters of Avon Lake have passed the school levy. Now it’s YOUR turn to step up to the plate. The citizens of your town have shown that they really do care about your future and have made a 10 year commitment, and a personal sacrifice, to prove it. What can you do? You can show your appreciation by studying hard and doing the little things in our community to show that you “get it” and that you too want to be good citizens. Volunteer at community events, help the senior citizens when you can, remember to thank those who worked hard to get the levy passed. You can find your own way to pay our citizens back for their commitment to your future. You can “do the right thing”.  You can excel in all you do.

To the YES voters: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Congratulations. You did the right thing. You can smile, breathe a sigh of relief, and continue to feel good about our community. Many of you made a personal sacrifice. You did it with no obvious gain for yourself, especially the senior citizens, but be proud. Your community will continue to be a great place to live. It will continue to attract other like minded families.

To the NO voters: The short answer is - You Lost. Many of you, with your letters, glossy printed fliers, and robocalls, spent way more than the 10 year cost of this levy trying to defeat it. The long time citizens of Avon Lake did not buy into your stuff. There is still a path for you - really, but it resides elsewhere. Folks who value educational opportunities for their kids will continue to move here. Homes here will continue to be valued items. Should you choose, you can take advantage of this. There are plenty of nice homes in areas not that far away, where the majority of residents feel as you do. Homes can be sold here for a premium and bought there for a bargain. That’s cash in your pocket. That’s a win - win.
