Zilka Sworn In As Next Avon Lake Mayor

VIPs, supporters and family attend ceremony

More than 200 family, friends and supporters showed up Dec. 30 at to witness Greg Zilka take the oath of office to become the next

His term goes into effect just after midnight on Jan. 1.

Judge Darrel Bilancini swore in Zilka. State Representative Matt Lundy served as the emcee for the evening. Also in  attendance were numerous elected and appointed officials including Avon Lake council members, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, former Municipal Court Judge John Mackin and Elyria Mayor Bill Grace.

During his acceptance speech, Zilka, who over incumbent K.C. Zuber in a runoff race, said one of his first items of business to attend to is to .

Zilka, who enjoyed support from both Democrats and Republicans in the non-partisan election, scanned the room and joked it was like being with the Hatfields and McCoys.
