I Love it Here!

As someone who moved here, I was surprised how much I came to love the area. Very surprised.

I love Northeast Ohio. I love Cleveland. I love Avon.

I’ve lived here for 10 years now, and no one is more surprised at that than me. The plan was to move to Cleveland and pad my resume for 2 or 3 years, then move some place nice. Maybe Colorado.  Maybe California. But this was a “stopover,” not a destination.

I still can’t believe I live in Cleveland, and love it.

I grew up in Pittsburgh.  Lived there until I was 18.  Loved the Steelers, really loved the Penguins.  In truth, I still really love the Penguins.  My kids are allowed to make a lot of different life decisions for themselves: what occupation they will take, where they will live, (within 30 minutes of my house) what kind of sports or activities they participate in … but they will never be fans of the Flyers, Rangers, or Captials. Let’s go Pens!

I went to college in Kentucky. I loved living in Kentucky. It was beautiful, people were incredibly good to me, and the food … .wow.  I miss Kentucky sometimes. I still visit friends there at least once a year.

I’ve even lived in Hawaii for two years. That was a lot of fun. I thought I might end up moving back there, but there is something strangely depressing about waking up on Christmas morning and it being 84 degrees. I know that sounds strange, but trust me. Hawaii just wasn’t for me.

And now I live here.  And I have come to love it.  Maybe it’s just because I associate so many great moments in my life with living here, like finding a wife, buying a house, having kids, and getting a satellite dish. But truthfully, there are so many great reasons why I love living here.

All the great parks. The Zoo. Taking my kids to watch the Indians. Seasons ... even though we never seem to have spring.  Mitchell’s Ice Cream. . . Reasonable traffic.  The Black Keys (from Akron, but close enough).  The . The fact that the west side and the east side are like two different countries. Did I mention Caribou?

I love Cleveland.  I hope to spend the rest of my life here, and I hope my kids do the same … I just hope they don’t live on the east side.
