Avon Lake School Board Talks Levy

Voters will decide on an 8.28-mill levy on May 7 proposed by Avon Lake City Schools.

Avon Lake school officials were frank about how important the May 7 levy vote is to the district.

“The state of Ohio does not allow us to operate in the red,” Treasurer Autumn Streng said, according to The Morning Journal. "We are trying to educate the public about our loss in revenue and working towards making the necessary cuts and adjustments to our budget so that we can continue serving our students and the city of Avon Lake.”

The Avon Lake Board of Education proposed a 10-year, $6.5 million emergency levy in January. The annual cost per $100,000 valuation is $253.58.
