Avon Lake Senior Citizens Welcome at Troy Senior Prom

This annual event has become a favorite, pairing sixth-graders with seniors for an evening of fun.

s sixth-graders are inviting the city’s senior citizens to dust off those dancing shoes for an  evening of fun and refreshments on April 15. 

The students will host its Beach Blanket Bingo “Senior Prom” this Friday from 6:30 p.m. -8 p.m. Seniors are welcome to join the students for dancing, socializing and fun. Door prizes will be awarded and light refreshments will be served.

“Students really seem to enjoy this event because they are able to serve as hosts for the party and show the seniors a great time,” Marty Walsh, a teacher and the staff coordinator for the event, said.

This marks the 15th year for the prom.

The evening, sponsored by the Troy PTA, bridges the generations and allows the sixth-graders to celebrate the city’s senior citizens, as well as their grandparents. Participants will enjoy music, dancing and fun stories from young and old.

 “The PTA is pleased to sponsor this event,” Troy PTA President Cheryl Higley said. “It is a joy to watch the students interact with the senior citizens. It really is a fantastic night and heartwarming to see the students give back to the Avon Lake community.”
