Avon Village and East Vying for Thousands in Facebook Contest

Give the kids a “like.”

Avon parents are hoping to score their kids a few extra dollars by placing in the top 17 of Facebook “likes” on Giant Eagle’s Apples for Students Facebook contest.

Avon East and Avon Village elementary schools have entries. Voting ends March 22.

On Giant Eagle/s Facebook, 107 schools have posted photos of kids and a message that celebrates “Apples for the Students” 25th anniversary. The photos with the most likes win.

Of the 107 school entries, 17 with the most "likes" by March 22  will share in $60,000 worth of free playground equipment. The contest is part of Giant Eagle’s “Active Living” campaign.

The top 5 schools with the most likes will each earn $5,000 in equipment. The next 12 schools with the most likes will receive $2,500 in free equipment.

Avon PTA President Kathy Bennett said that regardless of which Avon school wins money, if they do, they will share.

At publication, “likes” ranged from 2 to almost 700.

Avon East has 518 likes and Avon Village has 272.

Avon PTA President Kathy Bennett said that regardless of which Avon school wins money, if they do, they will share.

“It’s a great opportunity to get free stuff,” Bennett said. “If we win something big we are going to share with other schools.”
