Avon's Volley for the Cure Continues Tradition of Giving

Volley for the Cure helps Ohio affiliates of the Susan G. Komen fund.

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month well underway, Avon's girls volleyball team did their part Oct. 8 with their annual Volley for the Cure.

The Eagles took on the Midview Middies Tuesday afternoon and used the occasion to raise funds to benefit the Ohio Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

All the proceeds from the ticket sales, concessions and raffles from the game will go to the Susan G. Komen fund to help find a cure for breast cancer and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

The girls were happy to help.

"It is very close to our hearts. We have all known someone with breast cancer or another form of cancer," Avon Senior Erin Cannon told our media partners at NewsNet5.com.

A special ceremony honoring survivors and all those fighting breast cancer followed the game.

During the fall of 2013, more than 800 Ohio High School Girls’ Volleyball Teams will participate in “Volley for the Cure."

Before the match started, members of the volleyball team escorted breast cancer survivors from the bleachers to the court to honor their courage, Newsnet5.com reported.
