College Notes: Avon Lake Students Recently Honored

 The following students were recently acknowledged by their universities:

Muskingum University has announced the induction of Erin Barnes of Avon Lake, OH, into Lambda Sigma, a national honor society for second-year men and women, dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship and the spirit of service among college students.

Kelly L. Emery of Avon Lake, OH received an award at the University of Mount Union's annual Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation on April 19. Emery, a senior biology major, received the Dr. J. and G.E. Brugger Pre-Med Award. This prize is awarded to an outstanding pre-med student in recognition of academic achievement and contribution to the overall University community. She is a graduate of Avon Lake High School. The ceremony honored graduating seniors and underclass students who have excelled academically, displayed excellent leadership skills and shown dedication to the University and community through outstanding community service initiatives.

Rebecca Sherman, a senior Music major at Grove City College, has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2011 semester. Rebecca is a 2007 graduate of Beaver Area High School and is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Eugene Sherman from Avon Lake, OH. Students eligible for the Dean's List have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59; for the Dean's List with Distinction a GPA of 3.60 to 3.84 and for the Dean's List with High Distinction a GPA of 3.85 to 4.0.

Lynn Switaj of Avon Lake, OH, has graduated from Lake Forest College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Switaj graduated Cum Laude (GPA over 3.5) and earned distinction in her senior biology thesis. Switaj is a graduate of Avon Lake High School in Avon Lake, OH. She is the daughter of Lori E. Switaj and Stephen Switaj.
