Kristy Powell, an elementary school teacher, entered her family's gaily lit and decorated home in the contest. Then she and her family got to work.
They enlisted the support of local newspaper to promote their entry. The Powell children and their friends went all over downtown Davis with fliers to encourage people to vote for the Powell home in the contest.
