Evening of Jump, Jive, and Swing! April 20th at Avon Lake High School
On Friday, April 20th, at 7 PM, Avon Lake will host a jazz festival that will include the Avon Lake Jazz Ensemble, Learwood Jazz Band, Bay High School Jazz Band, and the Brookside High School Jazz Band. The guest band will be "Swing City" featuring big band and vocal favorites from the American Song Book of Miller, Sinatra, Darin, Fitzgerald, and more. The concert admission is $6 and $3 for students/seniors.
This is the first time that the Swing City Big Band will perform with the Avon Lake Jazz Ensemble. We have performed with other professional jazz bands in the area including the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Cleveland Jazz
Heritage Orchestra, and the TOPS Swing Band. Over the years, we have shared the stage with a number of guest artists including Greg Banaszak, sax; Peter Dominguez, bass; Tom Fries, drums; and Dave Kasper, sax and flute.

While searching for a professional group to come to our festival this year, Dale Hildebrand, Brookside Band Director, suggested the Swing City Big Band. Dale plays trombone in their band. In addition to Swing City, high school jazz bands will be performing, including Bay Village, Brookside, and Avon Lake. The Learwood Middle School Jazz Band will also perform.
Mr. Eddleman started the Avon Lake Jazz Ensemble in 2005 as an after school group and in 2009 jazz band was offered as a class. About half of the band members can fit the class into their schedules. During class, we learn about jazz styles, interpretation, and improvisation. The other half of the band members meet with us once a week for an after school rehearsal. The band is a popular and active group, performing at events in the schools and around the community."

Ray Ewers, and Cindy Smith. The band leader is Terry Kitchen.
