Avon Lake Gold Wins War on the Shore Tournament

The fifth grade boys' basketball team won its second straight War on the Shore championship this past weekend in Avon Lake.

Many have imagined it while playing pick-up basketball—making the last shot in a big game as the clock ticks down to zero.

Avon Lake’s Nathan Sidloski did it for real against Avon, propelling his Avon Lake Gold fifth grade travel basketball team to an overtime win.

The shot helped the team capture its second straight championship at the War on the Shore basketball tournament this past weekend.

Avon led Avon Lake 40-to-37 with three seconds left in the game when Sidloski launched a 3-point basket from the deep corner. 

“I felt like I knew it was going in," said Sidloski. “It felt amazing. It gave our team a chance to win.”

Free throws were the key for Avon Lake in overtime. Max Rauch made two clutch shots from the line and Matt Oehlstrom made one to give Avon Lake a 3-point lead and the final difference in the game.

The Avon Lake Gold traveling team roster includes: Spencer Chippi, Christian Perry, Nick Marsh, Max Pavelshak, MichaelKuban, Jake Long, Ryan Romanini, Sidloski, Rauch and Oehlstrom.  Coaches are Rob Sidloski and Matt Perry.
