Key Club Remembers Victims of 9/11

High School club places 2,819 flags to remember victims of 9/11

Members of the Avon Lake High School Key Club, and their adviser Gjergj Haxhiu, placed 2,819 flags on the front lawn of Avon Lake High School to commemorate those who died in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The flags, placed on Sept. 9, included small flags for each victim. Larger flags represented responders killed in the terrorists attacks.

The number of flags, and what they represented were not lost on Haxhiu.

"Each flag is a person that died," Haxhiu said, looking over the field of flags. "That was a life lost."
