Pre-Football Game Barbecue Will Support School Foundation

A foundation that has funded more than $175,000 of Avon Lake school projects is holding a “pre-game” barbecue fundraiser Sept. 7 at

The pre-game barbecue dinner, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Avon Lake High School Commons. Tickets are $16 for adults and include barbeque chicken, ribs, mac & cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, roll, drink and dessert. Tickets for children 12 and under are $5 and include BBQ chicken, mac & cheese, drink and dessert.

Established in 1986, the Avon Lake City Schools Foundation hopes to develop a community partnership that will help grow the principle of its endowment funds to continue funding educational enrichment opportunities for the city’s youths. Specifically, they help finance projects that enrich and enhance student learning beyond the scope of normal required school expenditures and the required course of study.

This includes providing grants and mini-grants to educators and others affiliated with the school district such as commissioning choir pieces that involve students working directly with composers, funding materials to help develop the proving money for Classic Drama for the Middle School:  Learning How to Handle Conflict through the Arts, and supplying money for Glass Fusing: Art and Science Combined, an innovative educational program that integrates science and art to  approximately 100 fourth-graders each year.

All proceeds support the Avon Lake City Schools Foundation. Ticket deadline is Friday, Aug. 31. For your reservation fill out the form and mail with payment.
