Reports of Avon Students Wearing T-Shirts Mocking Death of North Ridgeville Student Trouble School Officials

Avon High principal says school is investigating claims

Reports of Avon students wearing t-shirts to mocking the death of North Ridgeville student Alex Sismour have reached Avon school officials.

Several people posted on Facebook over the weekend about claims that Avon students were seen wearing t-shirts saying something about learning how to ride a bike, referencing that Sismour, 14, was struck and killed by a van Sept. 10 while riding his bicycle across State Route 57 in Elyria.

principal Kristina Dobos Buller said in a statement Monday that two North Ridgeville students have come forward saying they had seen three people wearing what were descibed as "mean-spirited, homemade" t-shirts.

Buller said she is working with North Ridgeville officials to identify those wearing the shirts.

Avon High "will render consequences" on the shirt-wearers, she said.

"The Avon student body is saddened they were represented in this negative light, and, more importantly, that the Sismour family was faced with these events," Buller said.
