School District Finds New Treasurer Within

Assistant Treasurer Autumn Streng will take over for Denise Holcomb on March 1, 2012.

The didn’t have to look too far for the right candidate to take over the books as the new treasurer.

They didn’t even have to leave the office.

Assistant Treasurer Autumn Streng beat out 15 other applicants, and will move across the hall into the treasurer’s office when current treasurer , effective Feb. 29, 2012.

“I expect there to be a smooth transition between Denise and myself,” Streng said. “I’m looking forward to digging into the treasurer’s role.”

Streng, who’s been with the district for seven years, survived two rounds of vetting by three different groups, including one of citizens with an economic background, said district Superintendent Bob Scott.

“They were definitely put through the ropes,” Scott said.

Scott said Streng will be making $87,000 per year, replacing Holcomb’s $107,000, and will receive the same benefit package teachers receive. She will pay 15 percent of her medical benefits next year, and will receive a $5,000 transition payment over the next two months.

That’s money well earned, he said.

“Having worked with her for a couple of years, I know she’s going to do great,” he said.

Streng, who’s parents were graduates of Avon and Sheffield high schools, received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Franklin University in Columbus, and her master’s degree in education with a focus in school treasury from Ashland University.

She said she’s ready to take on the challenge of decreased funding through public utility deregulation reimbursement, tangible personal property and devaluation of the .

“We’re going to have a tough few years ahead of us,” Streng said.

Luckily, she said, her experience in the district will serve her well.

“Because I’ve been with the district for seven years, I have a solid understanding of how it operates,” Streng said. “I’ve enjoyed my years here, and I look forward to many, many more.”
