Tyler Srail, Alison Flint Are 2011 ALHS Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Duo excelled in and outside of the classroom.

Two seniors with a long list of accomplishments have been named the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2011. Tyler Srail is this year’s valedictorian. Allison Flint is her class’s salutatorian.

Tyler Srail, Valedictorian

Srail earned the honor of class valedictorian with a GPA of 4.741. His list of academic and school accomplishments runs deep. He graduated as a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction.

He will be attending Case Western Reserve University to study Bio Medical Engineering.

Srail is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Phi-Beta-Kappa Award. He was the 2011 president of the Model United Nations, vice president of the Key Club, co-president of the Key Club and co-president of Academic Challenge.

He earned the Robert and Helen Murray Scholarship of Avon Lake Kiwanis.

 Srail has spent time volunteering on church mission trips including building a home in Appalachia in 2009 and working on a farm for Heifer International in 2010. This summer he will go to New Orleans to build and repair homes .

Srail is also a black belt in Karate.

In his commencement speech, Srail called himself  "kind of a science nerd,” spoke of technology and how its pace  will soon reach a breakneck speed and of the day computers will be so small they will be integrated into our biological systems.

Srail also spoke of happiness and adaption saying, “We are really, really good at finding flaws in good things, and at recovering from bad things.

"It’s only when our sense of ethics or personality is seriously out of line with what we do over a period of time that prolonged and deep unhappiness occurs," Srail said. "Whatever we go on to do, we must always make sure that we’re ethically okay with it, and after that everything is gangbusters.”

Alison Flint, Salutatorian

Alison Flint, the class Salutatorian, graduated from Avon Lake High School with a 4.7 GPA.

Academically, Flint excelled in a number of areas. She was the president of French Honor Society, co-captain of ALHS’s Academic Challenge team, was a Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Ambassador, National Merit Commended Scholar and named an AP Scholar with distinction. She earned a scholarship from the Avon Lake High School PTA. 

Flint, who will attend Dartmouth College in the fall, was also a standout golfer. She was the senior captain and 4-year varsity letter winner in girl's golf. She was the SWC's 2010 MVP in girl's golf and named a SWC Scholar Athlete.

She also participated in Drama Club, National Honors Society, Model United Nations, Merples and was a reporter for Avon Lake High School’s newspaper, The Spectrum.
