Viewfinder: ALHS Marching Band Goes to the Mattresses
Mattress sale helps raise money for Orlando, FL trip to play at bowl-game halftime show.
The marching band was, to lift a phrase from "The Godfather," goin' to the mattresses Saturday.
They held a sale of discounted, warrantied mattresses to raise money for their Dec. 29 trip to Orlando, FL to play during halftime at the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl.
Band Director Dave Eddleman, said the trip costs about $800 per student, and the 95 participating band members have been fundraising since January 2010.

“We’ve got about 95 really motivated students,” he said. “They’re all really excited about it.”
Eddleman said Bowl Games of America has supplied each student with two-day passes to Universal Studios, and the band will march in a parade sponsored by Macy’s, similar to the Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, along with 10 high school marching bands from around the country.

“The kids made a lot of Facebook friends the last time we did this,” Eddlemen said.
Joe Matejka, owner and president of Custom Fundraising Solutions, who supplied the mattresses, said other sales at Cleveland-area high schools typically raise anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000.
