Mass Flossing: Crushers, Fans Will Try to Break World Flossing Record

Mass floss attempt will take place on July 12, between double-header

Baseball and flossing. Probably not the first pairing that comes to mind when trying to break a world record, but the Lake Erie Crushers are hoping their fans will help set a new record in their ballpark on July 12.

The event, sponsored by Deak Medical Dentistry, came in part as the result of Cleveland poor dental habits.

“According to a recent study, the Cleveland area had the worst flossing habits in the entire country; I thought that this event would bring positive attention and education to flossing for the area,” Dr. Andrew Deak of Deak Medical Dentistry, said.

The previous record for most people flossing on a 10,000-ft. piece of dental floss is currently held by 1,470 on a 6,000-ft. single string piece of floss at Lake Norman Elementary School in Mooresville, NC on March 19, 2004. (It's a real record. Here it is.)

The mass flossing will take place between a double header. The first game will start at 5:05 p.m. Following that game, fans will be welcomed on the field to attempt the world record. That will be followed by a second 7-inning game.
