First no-hitter in Frontier League since 2009

Wednesday was a good day for pitchers in Northeast Ohio, but not a good day for local teams.

Hours after Anaheim Angels' pitcher Ervin Santana threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians, Joilet Slammers pitcher Andrew Moss no-hit the to get a 10-1 win at .

Moss struck out eight and walked six to get the first no-hitter in the Frontier League since 2009, the Crushers reported, and the 15th in league history.

The Crushers scored their lone run after Moss loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, and Justin Taylor's flyout was all the way to the warning track, allowing Patrick Norris to tag up at third and come home.

Erik Lis, who was the MVP of the here in Avon earlier this month, led the Slammers with three hits, including his 12th home run of the season, and drove in three runs.

The Crushers (28-32) suffered their first loss at home since July 4. They and the Slammers face off again Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Paul Fagan (4-7, 3.81 earned run average) is scheduled to start for the Crushers.
