Drivers from Avon Lake greeted with pro-Avon banner at city line

The football rivalry between  and Avon Lake high schools ahead of Thursday's Aug. 25 season opener took a colorful turn on Tuesday.

The color, by the way, is purple.

Avon city workers were seen hanging a purple banner cheering on the Avon Eagles onto a telephone pole in front of  on Center Road. It's the first thing to greet drivers crossing the railroad tracks from Avon Lake into Avon.

About a half-dozen banners were reportedly being hung in Avon.

For those who think Avon is being presumptuous, a small reminder: At last year's season opener, Avon trounced Avon Lake 21-3 in the first football game played at the renovated Memorial Stadium.
