Avon Lake Girls Win Bowling Green Soccer Tournament

U-11 travel team went 4-0 last weekend.

The Avon Lake Lightning under-11 girls travel soccer team went 4-0 last weekend, winning the Bowling Green Spring Soccer Challenge tournament. The tournament, hosted at Bowling Green State University, attracts more than 400 teams from Canada and the U.S.

The Lightning is comprised of girls that attend Troy Intermediate School.

The Lightning won all three of their preliminary games to earn a spot in the championship game. Battling a persistent rain and soggy conditions on Sunday, the girls defeated a team from Greater Toledo Football Club by a score of 4-1 to win the championship trophy for their age division. The girls scored 15 goals over the weekend and surrendered only three.
