Avon Lake Swept By Brecksville-Broadview Hts.

Shoreman boys, girls swim teams look foward to conference championships next week in Westlake.

The Avon Lake swim team took one on the chin with a visit to the Brecksville Community Center where host Brecksville-Broadview Heights won both the girls and boys meets. The Bees won the girls side, 131-54 while the Shoremen boys were also on the short end with a 115-62 loss to the Bees.

"We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores starting for us. It will be exciting for them to experience their first big conference meet," said coach Rob Schmidt, in reference to the Southwestern Conference championships next weekend at the Westlake Recreation Center.

The Avon Lake girls were only able to snag one individual swim event. Courtney Citro won the 100 back with a time of 1 minute 9.62 seconds. In diving, Morgan Srail of Avon Lake won with a total of 283.50 points.

"That was Morgan's best point total in a dual meet," said Schmidt.

Citro won the 100 back with little room to spare, as Brecksville's Rachel Bartilson was second, just .19 seconds behind at 1:09.81. Second-place finishes for the Shoregals included Maddie Woyansky in the 200 individual medley (2:29.86) behind Brecksville's Leandra Trudeau (2:26.63). Marissa Maiorca was runner-up in the 100 fly with a 1:09.54, trailing Katie Wilczewski of Brecksville (1:05.45).

Pacing the Shoremen boys was a double win night from Ethan O'Rourke, who won the 200 and 100 free.

O'Rourke took the measure of everyone with a lot to spare in the 200 free with a 1:53.35 with James Humel of Brecksville second at 2:04.58. In the 100 free, O'Rourke again had breathing room with a winning time of 49.43 with second going to the Bees' Ryan Ainger at 51.01.

Also with a first for the Shoremen was Michael Parsons, who won the 500 free in 5:45.23 - nearly15 seconds ahead of runner-up Brian Moore of Brecksville (6:00.19).

The Bees swept the relays on both sides of the pool with the Brecksville girls going 1-2 in each of the three events while the Shoremen boys were second in the 200 medley relay.
