Avon Wins WSC Wrestling Title Behind MVP Zeman

By the narrowest of margins, wrestling team won the West Shore Conference tournament championship on Saturday night at the Avon gym.

, the Eagles star , became the first wrestler to ever win four WSC titles with his win at 145 pounds. He was named tournament MVP.

The Eagles finished with 160.5 points, just ahead of second-place Midview with 159.5. points. North Ridgeville was third with 146 points.

This is Avon's fifth WSC title, and its first since 2005.

Zeman, who pinned Midview's Isaac Payne at 2:59 of the 1:45 final, was one of four champions on the night for Avon. Jake Delorge pinned Travis Smith of Rocky River to win the 132-pound title. Adam Barker won the 138-pound title by defeating Nick Asp of North Ridgeville, 7-3. Hamzah Kirresh pinned Steve Burns of Bay Village in 1:40 to win the 182-pound title.

Alex Shermak finished second at 106 pounds, losing in a technical fall to Drew Dickson of North Ridgeville in the final. Matt Campo was pinned by Mike Plas of Midview at 1:48 of the 152-pound final to place second. 

Paul Sturm finished third at 195, pinning Anthony Strader of Vermilion in 51 seconds in the consolation final.

Max Kuchenrither was pinned by Vinny Lupico of Midview at 4:33 of the 120-pound consolation final and finished fourth. Chris Harris lost to Joe Kubinski of Bay Village in a technical fall in the 160-pound consolation final to place fourth. Tom Howlecky finished fourth at 220 pounds after losing to Matt Dawson of North Ridgeville in a technical fall.
