Brian Erie's Clutch Hit Lifts Lake Erie Crushers to Seventh Straight Win

Crushers beat Florence Freedom in 11 innings

While there was plenty going on everywhere else at Tuesday night -- Westlake Community Day, an autograph signing event with Cleveland Indians legend Len Barker, and a visit from Lt. Governor Mary Taylor,  and causing a game delay -- the were not going to be upstaged.

The Crushers won their seventh straight game, 5-4, over the Florence Freedom in 11 innings. The win puts the Crushers (37-35) just a half-game behind the Traverse City Beach Bums for the final Frontier League East Division playoff spot.

Brian Erie singled home Chris Luick from third with two outs in the 11th to lift the Crushers to the win.

The Crushers trailed, 2-1, before scoring two runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. After Florence scored twice in the seventh, the Crushers again tied the game with a run in the eighth. A scoreless ninth inning sent the game into extra innings.

Patrick Norris and Andrew Davis each had a two hits and a run scored for the Crushers. Paul Daniels (5-1, 2.23 earned run average) pitched the 11th inning to get the win. He was the fifth pitcher of the night for the Crushers.

Attendance was listed as 2,809.

Paul Fagan (5-9, 4.29) gets the start Wednesday as the Crushers and Freedom play at 7:05 p.m.
