Crushers, Fans Unofficially Set World Flossing Record

An attempt to break the world record for the most people flossing on a single length of dental floss was unofficially broken July 12 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon between Lake Erie Crushers games.

Despite the slight yuck factor, a pile of 1,535 people, including Lake Erie Crushers, staff, fans and the visiting Frontier Greys participated in the attempt to break a world record, simultaneously flossing for 30 seconds. The previous record, set in 2004, was 1,470 people flossing simultaneously at Lake Norman Elementary School in Mooresville, NC.

Crushers starting pitcher Alex Kaminsky, and five visiting players from the Frontier Greys joined the flossing at the Freight. Crusher’s catcher David Roney helped corral and pump up fans, going from the field onto the concourse in his gear to help bring flossers onto the field.

Marketing Assistants Kevin Brehmer and Mike Harrington spent plenty of hours organizing the record attempt.

“It’s a great feeling," Harrington said. "We just know that all of this would not have been possible without the help of the entire staff. Full time, interns, game day staff and our volunteers are the reason this was all possible.”

The record is not yet official. Before Guinness Book of World Record officials certify the most people flossing on a 10,000ft piece of dental floss, photos, footage and submission of final forms need to be sent in still. The finalizing could take up to 4-6 weeks to receive word from record officials.

The Crushers organization thanked participants with a July 12 ticket to use their stubs for a future 2013 game. Ticket stubs can be brought to the Box Office for the exchange. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
