Crushers Strike Again in Late-Inning Thriller

The win puts the Crushers a half game ahead of the Traverse City Beach Bums for the final playoff spot of the Frontier League's Eastern Division.

For the second night in a row, the Lake Erie Crushers (49-42) came from behind late in the game to steal a win away from the Washington Wild Things.

The 3-2 victory puts the Crushers a half game ahead of the Traverse City Beach Bums in the Frontier League’s Eastern Division playoff race, and it’s the team’s sixth win in the last seven games.

To keep the Wild Things (39-52) at bay, right-hander Josh Roberts (10-6) struck out 10 and allowed only two runs on four hits over seven innings.

Wild Things’ pitcher Justin Edwards (2.04 ERA) had a good outing as well by striking out six and keeping the Crushers to only five hits in eight innings.

However, that was just enough to push the red-hot Crushers past Washington.

The Crushers first run came in the fourth as Patrick Norris smacked a lead-off triple to center field and scored on Andrew Davis’s single to right field.

Davis struck again in the seventh with his 39th double of the season (a league best), and trotted home after Kellen Kubacki belted a homerun over the center field wall. It was Kubacki’s sixth homerun of the year, and gave the Crushers the 3-2 lead.

Lake Erie has just one home game left against the Wild Things. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. tonight at

The last three regular season games will be played at Traverse City to decide which team will take the division’s final playoff spot.
