Lake Erie Crushers Host Christmas in July Party

Team puts the 'win' in winter wonderland as they beat the Washington Wild Things.

With the Christmas-themed atmosphere setting the scene, the did their best impression of Heat Miser with hot bats and six scorching innings of pitching from Josh Roberts to beat the Washington Wild Things, 4-1, Sunday evening at .

It was Christmas in July at the stadium, with holiday-themed entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus. Check out the photo gallery to see the fun.

In six innings of work, Roberts (7-4, 3.98 earned run average) gave up two hits and held the Wild Things scoreless.

Patrick Norris scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, giving the Crushers an early lead. The Crushers added another run in the sixth with a RBI single from third baseman Jason Taylor.

In the bottom of the seventh, Andrew Davis hit a stand-up double, driving in two more runs, to give the Crushers a 4-0 lead.

Relief pitcher Travis Risser pitched in the seventh and eighth innings, giving up two hits and a run on a fielder’s choice in the top of the eighth.

Ruben Flores had a shaky start in the ninth, walking the first two batters he faced. Flores then struck out the next batter, forced a groundout, and then struck out the tying run at the plate with men on second and third.

The Crushers improved to 30-34 and look for the home series sweep against the Wild Things at 7:05 p.m. Monday. Paul Fagan (4-8, 4.25) is set to start for the Crushers.
