Rauterkus, Kuchenrither Honored At Eagle Leadership Summit Awards

Avon standouts honored for exceptional character on and off the field

Two Avon High School athletes received the Eagle Leadership Summit Award for outstanding achievement in their sport and exceptional character on and off the field of play this week. The ceremony took place on Jan. 14 at the Avon VFW Post 7035.

Winter athletes Walter Rauterkus and Max Kuchenrither were honored for their contributions to their respective teams and were each presented with a certificate and challenge coin.

Rauterkus, a varsity basketball player is a a key member of the Avon boys basketball team. Coach Kevin Sapara praised the junior for his work ethic and “constant desire to make those around him better.”

Sapara said Rauterkus constantly pushes his teammates to improve themselves and the team.  Rauterkus is also a member of the varsity football team and hopes to play at the college level after he graduates from Avon.

Kuchenrither, a sophomore, has been on the varsity wresting team since his freshman year.  Max excels on and off the mat and has impressed coach Mark Porter by his strong work ethic and drive to constantly improve.

Porter called Kuchenrither a role model for the wrestling program and a key to the success of the team.
