Shoremen Best Eagles 42-28 in Opening Night Football Action

Avon Lake's decisive fourth quarter helps overcome a tied halftime game.

What a difference a year makes.

One year after being shaken, rattled and rolled by the Avon Eagles in the 2011 season opener, the Avon Lake Shoremen bested their across-the-tracks rival with a 42-28 win after opening with two consecutive touchdows.

Avon responded with 21 unanswered points, starting with a David Zeh to Rhys Ratino pass.

Shoremenfootball.net reports Avon Lake's quarterback, Jimmy Hessel, helped his team with three touchdowns on the night.

According to the Chronicle Telegram, Avon Lake owned the fourth quarter, and the game.

The Morning Journal reports on how Avon Lake snapped its losing streak against Avon.

Both teams played well. Congrats to all. It is nice to see that neighboring communities having a friendly rivalry. Lots of younger kids playing around the field, and people from both towns enjoying the game together.
