This week, two Avon High School athletes received the Avon Leadership Summit Award for outstanding achievement in their sport and exceptional character on and off the field of play. The ceremony took place on Monday, Oct. 15 at the Avon VFW Post 7035.
Fall athletes Josh Singh and Madison Cooper were honored for their contributions to their respective teams and were each presented with a certificate and Challenge Coin.
Madison Cooper, a varsity cheerleader has been on varsity squad for three years. The senior captain is also on the competition cheer team.
“She embodies everything that a cheerleader should be, when you think about all the spirit and what these girls should be doing, it is Madison,” Coach Sheri Vaccarella said.
Vaccarella said as soon as Madison was named captain in the spring she started coming up with ideas to better the team and bring unity to the squad.
Josh Singh, a senior offensive lineman, was also honored.
“He may not start varsity right now but he contributes to the wins because he is at practice every day, playing challenge team and doing whatever we ask him to do to make our team better,” Coach Mike Elder said.
“I love his enthusiasm and attitude,” Elder said. “He excels as a student with a 3.7 GPA, he makes good choices socially, a role model for the younger kids in the program, and athletically he is the most improved player in our football program.”
Avon Leadership Summit Awards will be held at the Avon VFW post 7035 every Monday at 8:30 p.m.to acknowledge fall sport athletes. This event is open to the public.
