Turkey Dash Will Precede Thanksgiving Meals on Thursday

The Turkey Dash, a 5k run/walk held each year on Thanksgiving morning at the Avon High School is Nov. 22 this year.  

This family friendly event is a great way to show your gratitude for your own health, support a great cause.

And of course, work up an appetite for your own Thanksgiving feast.

The race starts at 9 a.m. and benefits The Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event has become a major fundraiser for the Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation in Avon, race director Sharon Lerch said.

“In past years, we’ve raised as much as $30,000,” she told Patch in 2011.

Funds raised from the annual Turkey Dash go directly to women and their families in Northeast Ohio who are impacted by the financial burden of the high cost of breast cancer treatments. In 2011, for the Foundation through the race.

The race, held at the Avon High School and winding through the Highland Subdivision of Avon, features more than 1,400. At the race’s conclusion, racers, their families and friends can enjoy pumpkin pie, hot cocoa and coffee along with fruit and water.

Turkey Dash Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each age group and the top male and female finishers are recognized in the following age divisions:  2-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, ....60-64, 65-69 and 70 and over.
