As is the tradition, Avon Lake will again host extensive Memorial Day ceremonies including a parade, and ceremonies at the Avon Lake Cemetery and Folger Home. The weather is expected to cooperate with temperatures in the high 80s and no rain in the forecast.
Wear your red, white and blue to the parade and ceremonies at the Folger Home traditionally bring out thousands to the area by the high school and Veterans Park.
Here’s the Memorial Day schedule:
8 a.m. Post 211 Ceremony at the Post
The will be on the Post back patio (on Walker Road) include opening remarks by the Post Commander, flag raising, the “Salute the Dead,” three volley fires and Taps.
9 a.m. Memorial services at Lakeshore (Avon Lake) Cemetery
Memorial services at Lakeshore (Avon Lake) Cemetery including opening remarks, Meorial Day Prayer, raising and lowering the flag to half staff, reading of the Post 211 deceased. Tossing of the Memorial Wreath into Lake Erie and the Avon Lake High School trumpeters performing Tape and Echo Taps.
10 a.m. Memorial Day Parade.
The parade will start in the North Drive of proceed north on Avon Belden, left onto Electric Boulevard, left onto Glenview Drive, left onto Avon Belden and north to on Lake Road. If you are participating in the parade park your non-parade vehicle in the south parking lot. Parade vehicles should enter north parking lot from Electric Boulevard (by bus garage).
10:45 a.m. Ceremonies at Folger Home
Legion Color Guard posts Flags & Colors at the and conducts a flag raising and lowering. A brief ceremony will be held at the Folger Home including the singing of the National Anthem backed by the Avon Lake High School Marching Shoremen. The rifle squad will conduct the traditional memorial ceremony to salute the dead.
